Measuring Skin Functions

SCOPE AND CONTENTS

Quantification of cutaneous variables by non-invasive means. The cutaneous barriers and the most representative variables of the "barrier" against desiccation (TEWL and epidermal water balance) of the physical and chemical "barrier" (melanin content, anti-oxidants and microbiome) and the mechanical "barrier" (sonographic structure and biomechanical indicators). Other transcutaneous variables (microcirculation and gasometry)

Exercise and recovery of peripheral perfusion

SCOPE AND CONTENTS

Physical therapy programs (thermotherapy, ultrasound therapy, and exercise) improve the symptomatology of peripheral arterial disease, sarcopenia, and other diseases involving inactivity. However, the individual response is very varied and some have an exercise intolerance. In this sense, the individualization of exercise is an essential requirement, which implies evaluating and quantifying its impact in each case. Recovery depends a lot on microcirculatory homeostasis and in this sense, we try to provide in this course quick and practical ways to access this information, essential in physiotherapy.

Microcirculation of the skin - structure and function. Cardiovascular regulation - interaction between sensors and effectors. Inflammation, Leakage and Endothelial rarefaction. Consequences of microcirculatory dysfunction.

Means for non-invasive exploration of microcirculation in vivo. Dynamic studies of microcirculation in research and in the clinical environment.
